Viral Monday: Copypasta

It’s not what’s for dinner.

Though this tasty shot is of delicious pasta from Ward Street Bistro looks amazing, it has nothing to do with ‘copypasta’. Image courtesy of Ward Street Bistro.

This week’s meme is actually a term to help us build up to a meme (you’ll see what I mean in a week).

Viral Monday: Asians In The Library

In light of the recent Hollister incident in South Korea, this week’s Viral Monday is:

Asians In The Library

This week’s Viral Monday is an older clip of a naive blonde Alexandra Wallace from UCLA producing what became one of the most offensive videos to grace YouTube in a long time. What started out as a rant at a webcam soon became a wildly criticized act which spurred many reactions videos. To get a sense of what I mean, watch the clip below:

Quickly, angry responses flooded in from offended students, YouTube viewers, and close friends of those Wallace had objectified, leading to a flaming (or angry commenting) of her original YouTube video (which has since been removed) and shocked comments from the UCLA Chancellor.
Now, starting with ‘hordes of Asians’ may have been her first flaw, but it is undoubtably the ‘ching chong’ comment prompted one of the more hilarious videos to meant to combat the negative image Wallace had created.

Though the clip has since lay dormant, it has served as a power lesson of racist behavior on YouTube, perhaps serving as warning to those who would seek to divulge their highly offensive bigotry on social media.

Common Sense: Shit Not To Do

We interrupt our scheduled program of Viral Monday and Uncommon Verbiage to do a much-needed Public Service Announcement on proper common sense and the internet.

You may have heard recently about a less-than-brilliant quote made by the one and only conservative dingbat Todd Akin, who stated, “First of all, from what I understand from doctors, [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Now as if that weren’t insult enough, he went on to say, “But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something. You know I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.”

Upcoming Misadventures

Hey all!

I figured I’d give you a quick informal weekend update on what to expect next!

As you might have noticed, I added some music to the blog…mainly because I’ve become a bit obsessed with Timeflies ever since I saw them at Princeton Lawnparties (it will make you wish you had tigerblood)

Timeflies, newfound obsession. From left to right: Cal, Rez. Image courtesy of State In The Real.

I will be releasing some new Uncommon Verbiage tonight or tomorrow (I’m trying to pick out the perfect one given that its concert season) as well as doing some research for Viral Monday (Ermagerd seemed to be quite popular).

What else can you look forward to?

Well, I have quite a crazy lineup of concerts coming up. Monday I will be seeing beloved band Idle Warship perform with my besties from college that got me hooked,

Talib Kweli and Res of Idle Warship posing for Red Bull USA. Image courtesy of Red Bull USA

and then, I will be attended Saturday and Sunday of unofficial raver’s paradise, Electric Zoo. I would explain more about it, like before, except I feel like the promos speak for themselves:

From there, I am still taking suggestions!

So stay tuned, and get hyped!

Viral Monday: Ermahgerd

I want to apologize firstly by how long it took me to decide on a viral topic of the day (it was a close one guys). However I have finally decided upon a viral phenomenon that is massively intellectually stimulating:
