Viral Monday: Ermahgerd

I want to apologize firstly by how long it took me to decide on a viral topic of the day (it was a close one guys). However I have finally decided upon a viral phenomenon that is massively intellectually stimulating:

For those a bit confused with the spellings of the caption of the Ermahgerd photos, Know Your Meme (the leading authority of viral images and videos) has created a video explaining the trend:

The ‘Ermahgerd’ is meant to be “Oh my god” but with a humorous accent inspired by difficulty speaking (often attributed to ‘retainer lisp’). This lisp is a common occurrence in shows like South Park and Total Drama Action.

These videos began to take flight across the internet through Reddit, later being searched extensively under the keywords ‘Berks’ and later ‘Ermahgerd’. As the trend has continued, photos of animals in addition to the initial image (believed to be one of two plausible women submitted to the Reddit forums).

Or…

Possible suspect #2. Image also courtesy of Know Your Meme.

This trend appears to still be taking off, and it will be interesting to see how it progresses!
