…And this is crazy, but here’s my URL, so blogroll me maybe?
Ok but actually, I’ve been noticing that Carly Rae Jepsen may have just concocted the most successfully nerdy-chic pickup line of 2012. Between the memes, spin-offs, parodies, and response videos, “Call Me Maybe” has become a viral international phenomenon. Whether it’s the Harvard Baseball Team or Tay Zonday, some the parody videos have kicked off to as many as 14 million views, people have begun making business cards, and I have even been approached by boys trying to be witty at bars with the famous line (and yes I have even used it as a pickup line in social situations).
What makes it such a great pick up line? You are pretty much guaranteed that any guy or girl already gets the inside joke. It’s also the most clever and non-creepy way to subtly slip someone your number, and because the word ‘maybe’ is involved, it seems a tad less desperate. Whats even better, it that it doesn’t matter if you are heterosexual, homosexual, or anything in-between: if you hit a rut in your approach with someone you like, it’s still the kind of cutesy pick-up line you could casually tell a new friend (without totally creeping them out). Even better? You can even create a super-cute video version and leave it on a person’s Facebook wall to further flatter them: what’s cuter than skipping around to Carly Rae Jepsen (and it doesn’t even matter what gender you are; boys look cute doing it too).
